Theories of Evolution

Evolution: is the change over time in inherited traits found in populations of living organisms.

Creationism: is the religious belief that humanity, life, the Earth, and the universe are the creation of a supernatural being.

Natural Selection: is the process by which biologic traits become more or less common in a population due to consistent effects upon the survival or reproduction of their bearers. It is a key mechanism of evolution. Because of the genetic variation within a population, some individuals would survive and reproduce more successfully than others. But, if the genetic traits are common, it allows for more of the population to survive and can reproduce and evolve more effectively

Mutation: are the changes in a genomic sequence.

Abortion

What is Abortion?

Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy usually done by removing of a fetus from the uterus. An abortion occurs usually if pregnancy complications occur. There are times when an abortion is used for preventing preserve health of the pregnant female. An estimated amount of 42 million abortions are performed legal and officially, with 20 million of those abortions that are done in bad medical environments.

Was this a learning opportunity or just a task?

I believe this assignment was a learning opportunity in many ways. We got knowledge in using the smart board some online programs and other video editing programs. We had many problems in doing this project such as connecting the smart board on the computer. We learned a lot about mitosis and I understood more from are video who showed the way of how mitosis works.

What are some ways of improving this assignment?

Improving the assignment would be easy if we could have an approval to do that. The problem was getting administrator rights on our computer some softwares that could be installed.

Genetic Traits

Dominant and Recessive genetic traits.
The word dominant means stronger. While Dominant and Recessive traits mean human visible genetic traits. They both have connection to the phenotype.

Recessive and Domainant Traits:

Eyes, Hair Color

Observable Genetic Traits in Food

Chromosomes: Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes which add up to 46 chromosomes.

The jack jumper female ant has 2 chromosomes per cell, while the male has 1 chromosome per cell.
Wheat has 42 chromosomes per cell.

Phases of Matter

What are the phases of matter?
There are 4 phases of matter named: Liquid, Solid, Gas, and Plasma. Liquid is described as having particles and molecules are not close together and not concentrated. Solid has molecules very concentrated which makes it harder. Gas has its molecules very spread out which makes it less concentrated. Plasma is a gas that is composed of free floating ions.

How is on phase of matter different than another phase? There is a very big difference between the matter phases. Solid has a very focused energy which makes it harder. While a liquid is more soft and has a spread out molecules.

Design 3 tests that you can do to determine whether an object is on of the 3 common phases of matter? For a liquid you can let it drip to see if it has a spread molecules. We can test that by putting the liquid in a container and see if it will take the shape of the container. We know a solid is something that is hard. We can test that by putting it in a bag and if the same shape you know its a solid.

Flame Test

''A flame test is a procedure used in chemistry to detect the presence of certain metal ions, based on each element's characteristic emission spectrum. The color of flames in general also depends on temperature; see flame color''.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame_test

The flame test is used to visually determine the identity of an unknown metal or metalloid ion based on the characteristic color the salt turns the flame of a bunsen burner. The heat of the flame converts the metal ions into atoms which become excited and emit visible light. The characteristic emission spectra can be used to differentiate between some elements.
